Massage

Types of massage available

Massage appointments are for the basic purpose of relaxation and prevention/relief of muscular tension.

Please be aware, this is not a diagnostic service, if you require this please book a ‘Physiotherapy Consultation’ appointment.

Deep Tissue Massage (DTM)

This type of massage is used to address various complaints that can occur due to the everyday stresses of modern life with focus on the deeper tissues using slow deep pressure. A range of DTM techniques help to relieve stiffness, tightness and tension, that develop due to overuse. Scar tissue, myofascial trigger points and adhesions can be manipulated to reduce discomfort within a particular area.

Soft Tissue Massage (STM)

Soft tissue massage is seen as one of the most effective treatments available to address common muscular problems and also effective in reducing physical and psychological stresses. Techniques used are similar to that of DTM, but lighter pressures and soft tissue release techniques are applied to areas of muscular tension, stiffness and tightness that occur with everyday living.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is typically used before, during, and after physical events, and also as part of training maintenance. Sports Massage utilises a mixture of techniques ranging from soft tissue, deep tissue, myofascial release, and facilitated stretching.

Preparing for your massage

Some massage oil preparations contain nut oils, so please be sure to advise me of any allergies in advance.

It is best to avoid eating a heavy meal in the hours leading up to your massage, being generally well hydrated before and after your session is advisable

Please be prepared to undress appropriately, allowing treatment areas to be exposed and bear in mind there is potential for massage oils to stain fabrics when selecting clothing.

Massage cannot be performed over or around open wounds or if you have a skin infection of any kind.

Testimonials

I can’t tell you the relief, it’s like having a weight lifted. Thank you

After a lovely relaxing back massage I realised that Lara was a real expert, as she brought her skills as a physiotherapist to tackle some longstanding niggles. I’m consulting Lara about some things that I’ve just been ‘living with’ as they seem a bit minor to bother the GP about but I want to develop a self-care plan for my later life.

I had not had a massage for over 20 years and was wondering what it entailed. It turned out to be a very relaxing and totally enjoyable experienceLara brought all the necessary equipment to my home and soon had it all assembled. I felt rejuvenated when it was finished and totally relaxed and since having my massage my night cramps have gone. I will certainly ask her for another massage. Lara is a delightful person with a lovely chair side manner and able to chat with ease making the whole massage and occasion most enjoyable.
